Developments at Providence Farm, our chickens are UNIQUE. At Providence Farm we like to feel as if we are always moving forward, and in order to do that one must embrace change. Inevitably this brings challenges to face and overcome, as well as excitement. Our most recent, and ongoing challenge is the increase in the price of animal feed. It is inevitible as climate change bites, so please bear with us if prices do not always match. Our long term answer to these problems is to change our breed of chicken. We are already taking steps in that direction. Now, about those UNIQUE CHICKENS. Coming from outdoor organic parents, living here at Providence Farm, eating 100% organic food all their lives, being killed on the farm, dry plucked and 'hung' for a week make for a completely DIFFERENT taste and quality. There aren't many like that about.........you may be surprised to hear!! Are you a frustrated organic farmer? Small farms managed well can make a living. Did you know Pammy and Ritchie do an organic consultancy service, you can also learn how to produce superb poultry and keep a clear organic conscience. Phone 01409 254421 to discuss the options and book a visit. There has ben alot of press coverage about dilution of standards within the organic movement. We would be the first to agree that this is a terrible danger where market share becomes the lure rather than genuine wish to move towards a sustainable form of agriculture. Providence Farm has been at the pioneering edge of organic poultry production for many years now and continues to be so. Watch out for CROP the Campaign for Real Organic Poultry making and breaking news. You saw it here first, visit www.CROP-UK.com to find out more. Providence Farm has been in the headlines again. We were featured on a 'Tonight with Trevor McDonald' programme discussing the difference between supermarket organic chickens and the genuine article. Guess who came out on top!

Where shall we go now? Eighteen years ago, when we first started, we knew beyond any shadow of a doubt, that organic farming was the way forward. Morally, economically – every way you can think of. And luckily for us, it seems that a great many of you agree. We feel that supporting our local enterprises, be they the local organic veg box scheme or man who fixes the computer is part of building a strong economy in the area, and at the same time creating a sense of community. But what has this to do with Providence Farm? |

The next stage.......... Increasingly it seems that organic food and farming is in the headlines and the common sense in it must surely be trickling into the consciousness of the population, most baby food is now organic. That speaks volumes!!!. Those who are against it in any vociferous way usually have a hidden, or blatent, business agenda and are actually really afraid of losing out financially. |
